LEVEE TRAIL CLOSURES

LEVEE TRAIL CLOSURES

The Monarch-Chesterfield Levee District (MCLD) will begin the installation of additional backflow prevention at Pump Station 4 on January 14, 2020.  This work was originally planned for October 2019 but was delayed due to coordination issues with the Army Corps of Engineers.  Pump Station 4 is located just north of the Long Road interchange on Interstate 64.  Construction will require excavation across the levee, thereby necessitating closure of the Levee Trail in that area.  The closure will begin on January 14, 2020 and will be in place until late April 2020.  The trail closure will affect an approximately 200-foot section the Levee Trail in this area.  Trail users will be able to utilize the trail on both sides of the closure but will not be able to the access the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex (CVAC) Trailhead from the Rivers Edge Park Trailhead and vice versa.  The closure is located approximately 1 mile west of the Rivers Edge Trailhead and approximately 1.7 miles east of the CVAC Trailhead.

The MCLD will also be installing backflow prevention at Pump Station 6 beginning January 20, 2020.  Pump Station 6 is located on Edison Avenue approximately one quarter of a mile west of the intersection of Edison Avenue and Baxter Road.  This work will also require excavation across the levee, necessitating a trail closure in this area.   The closure will begin on January 20, 2020 and will be in place until mid-July 2020.  This trail closure will affect an approximately 200-foot section of the Levee Trail.  Trail users will be able to utilize the trail on both sides of the closure but will not be able to access Baxter Road from the Edison Avenue Trailhead and vice versa.  The closure is located approximately one quarter mile west of Baxter Road and approximately 1.8 miles east of the Edison Avenue Trailhead.

Trail users are reminded that for their own safety, all trail closure signage should be obeyed and construction barriers should not be crossed.
