Missouri River is falling at Hermann and Washington MO

June 20, 2015

Good morning all.  The Missouri river is behaving consistent with the forecasts as provided over the last couple of days.  It appears the Missouri River has already crested upstream in Hermann, and at Washington, and is close to its expected crest in St. Charles later today.

There is no riverine flooding or levee concerns for Chesterfield Valley.  Of course, Officials are aware and continue to monitor the conditions, and have certainly prepared.  Although this appears to be about a five year river event, all of the emergency responder, emergency planning agencies as well as the Monarch-Chesterfield Levee District, have communicated frequentl over the last week to make sure there was good information and everybody was operating on the same preparedness plans.

Below are the river reading graphics as provided by the National Weather Service.

The Herman Gauge was observed at 8:30 this morning, with a reading of 29.08.  The recorded crest for this event occurred yesterday at 29.7, and as you can see, the river is predicted to fall quickly.

The St. Charles Gauge was read this morning at 9 am, and read 31.73.  The projected crest is expected later today at 32.3.  That crest prediction is nominally lower than yesterdays prediction.  After todays crest, the river is forecast to fall pretty rapidly.

Unless something significant happens, we will not issue an update tomorrow (Sunday) morning.  It is simply not warranted or necessary.  I hope this information is helpful and also wish all the fathers a happy fathers day tomorrow!
