Fundraising moving forward for the Veterans Honor Park in Chesterfield

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 1, 2014

Fundraising is moving forward in Chesterfield to create a park in honor of the Troops and Veterans.

The City of Chesterfield is partnering with the Veterans Honor Park Committee to construct the Veterans Honor Park, a monument site to honor past, present and future veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The park will be located on the west side of Veterans Place Drive in Chesterfield’s Central Park, which will occupy a 16,500 square foot area next to the south entrance of the Chesterfield Amphitheater. A model of the park is on display in the lobby at Chesterfield City Hall, 690 Chesterfield Parkway W.

The design vision of the park was created by architectural firm, Powers Bowersox Associates, as a calm and peaceful gathering monument that is inviting, uplifting, engaging and safe. The tree-lined park will enhance the street approach and create a sanctuary occupied by arcing benches orbiting around a central monument fountain, providing a calm yet engaging space for the community to honor and recognize veterans.  The park will accommodate visitors day and night during regular park hours, providing opportunities for individuals, families, or groups to gather for both educational discovery and contemplative retrospection.

The Veterans Honor Park Committee is working to raise funds for the park. Support from the public is critical to the construction. “As a World War II veteran, this park is important to me because it honors all who have served or will serve our country to protect the freedoms enjoyed in the United States of America. The Veterans Honor Park strives to acknowledge these sacrifices. We want to provide the brave individuals, their families, and the general public a place to remember those veterans who walk among us every day and those who paid the ultimate price in the service to their country,” said Lee Wall, U.S. Army Veteran and Chair of the Veterans Honor Park Committee.

The park offers a variety of donation opportunities including title sponsors, fountain contributions, benches, donor strips, as well as engraved pressed concrete pavers. Details on all of the donation opportunities are available on the website, vhp.chesterfield.mo.us. Renderings of the park are also available on vhp.chesterfield.mo.us or on the Veterans Honor Park Facebook page.
