Mike Geisel Named Chesterfield City Administrator

Mike Geisel has been selected by the Mayor and City Council as Chesterfield’s next city administrator and he will begin his new role on August 22, 2016.

“This decision culminates a several month process that included an extensive candidate search,” said Mayor Bob Nation. “We are impressed by Mr. Geisel's credentials and experience, are fully supportive of his appointment and have every confidence in his ability to serve the city of Chesterfield.   “Mr. Geisel has already served the city in a series of positions with increasing responsibility and has earned the opportunity to help lead us on a road of continued success as a community.”

Mr. Geisel has spent nearly 28 years serving the City of Chesterfield. He first was appointed in 1988 as the Assistant City Engineer, was promoted to the Director of Public Works and then the Director of Public Services.  As Director of Public Services, Mr. Geisel was responsible for planning and zoning; engineering; street and sewer maintenance; fleet services; buildings and grounds; and parks, recreation and arts. Prior to joining Chesterfield, Mr. Geisel worked for the cities of Maryland Heights and St. Charles as well as the Georgia Power Company.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

“I am humbled and honored by the trust and confidence that Mayor Nation and the Chesterfield City Council have shown me,” Mr. Geisel said. “I have been privileged to be part of the Chesterfield community for almost 28 years, during which time I have developed many lifetime friendships. My family and I are extremely excited that the City has selected me to be their City Administrator such that I can continue to contribute to the City I love.  I am eager to work with our exceptional staff to make the Chesterfield community proud.”

He has been serving as the Co-Interim City Administrator along with Police Chief Ray Johnson since the retirement of Mike Herring at the end of March.   “I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for both Mr. Geisel and Chief Johnson for taking on this role in addition to their regular duties during this time,” stated Mayor Nation.

The selection comes after a rigorous national search, which garnered more than 40 applicants. Finalists participated in an interview process that included multiple components over two days: a community tour, a department director meet-and-greet, and interviews with the Mayor and City Council.   The appointment will be formalized by ordinance at a special-called meeting on Monday, August 22 at 5 p.m. in City Council Chambers.
