One of the St. Louis region's eight remaining Fortune 500 companies is planning to build a new, $150 million headquarters complex in Chesterfield and add 300 jobs here, according to Chesterfield and St. Louis County officials.

Reinsurance Group of America wants to expand in two new office buildings on a 17-acre site on Swingley Ridge Road in Chesterfield, about two miles from its current headquarters off Highway 40 (Interstate 64), according to documents filed with the St. Louis County Economic Council. Spokespeople for the company did not return calls seeking comment late Thursday.

RGA has about 800 employees in the St. Louis region in leased office space in Chesterfield. It had been looking at sites for a new headquarters in the region, said Denny Coleman, president of the St. Louis County Economic Council, and settled on Chesterfield. It is planning to construct two five-story office buildings -- 405,000 square feet in all -- and a three-story parking garage.
