City of Chesterfield Names Rob Kilo as 2023 Chesterfield Citizen of the Year

CHESTERFIELD, Mo., May 7, 2024.—The City of Chesterfield City Council and Mayor Bob Nation have recognized resident Rob Kilo as the 2023 Chesterfield Citizen of the Year. During the May 6, 2024, City Council meeting, Council President Pro Tem Dan Hurt presented the award to Kilo and recognized his contributions to the Chesterfield community.

Chesterfield Citizen of the Year recipients are recognized for their benefit to the City of Chesterfield through volunteerism, working on community projects and contributing to overall civic groups. This prestigious recognition is made by a Citizens Selection Committee, which then presents its recommendation to the mayor, City Council and city administrator after reviewing several worthy nominations.

Kilo, a Chesterfield resident for over two decades, was recognized for his impact on the local community as he advocates for the good of the City and residents through involvement on civic committees.

Kilo has served on the Parks, Recreation & Arts Citizens Advisory Committee (PRACAC) for seven continuous years and most recently served as Co-Chair, helping to lead the committee on Parks, Recreation & Arts priorities. He has also served on the Chesterfield Citizens Environmental Advisory Committee (CCEAC), and he continues to volunteer at City events and participate in sub-committees, such as the Trails & Connectivity Committee.

Kilo has also been recognized for his contribution to Chesterfield’s environment and conservation efforts. In 2018, Kilo spearheaded the creation of Monarch Grove—a collection of native pollinator community gardens that host milkweed to support Monarch butterflies, a 9’ Monarch butterfly sculpture and custom art benches that serve as a gathering and reflection space. After five years of working through City processes, Monarch Grove—built in collaboration with the City of Chesterfield and the Chesterfield Family YMCA– now resides within Central Park and on the Riparian Trail. Finalized in 2023, Monarch Grove was created in honor of Kilo’s mother.

Since 1989, the City of Chesterfield has recognized 43 residents as Citizens of the Year, celebrating their lasting impact and contributions to the City of Chesterfield.
